Bomarzo is a small municipality located in the Tiber Valley between the regions of Lazio and Umbria. Despite the many archaeological discoveries, the origins of its first inhabitants remain shrouded in mystery. What is certain is that the territory was intensely populated by both the Etruscans and the Romans, who conquered it around the 5th century B.C. There is still much tangible evidence of those times in the Bomarzo area: the Etruscan pyramid, the necropolis, the ruins of a Roman aqueduct, the Volumni furnaces. The main attraction in Bomarzo is the Parco dei Mostri, also called Sacro Bosco or Villa delle Meraviglie. This Italian monumental complex is a natural park adorned with numerous basalt sculptures dating back to the 16th century and depicting mythological animals, gods and monsters.
