Calcata is a unique mediaeval village, a sight that is striking in its shape. The village rises above the Treja Valley Park, which houses the remains of the Falisca city of Narce. It hides views around every corner, between intertwining alleys and sudden panoramas of the gorges. Hidden under ivy-covered arches, one encounters workshops of restoration, leather, ceramics and glass craftsmanship. Along with art studios and jewellery creations. The authentic beauty of Calcata was awarded in 2018 with the Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club, a tourist-environmental quality mark.
The Valle del Treja Regional Park is one of the best known and most appreciated protected areas in Lazio, due to its truly suggestive and fascinating corners. Although it is not very extensive, it contains interesting and important naturalistic, geological and historical sites that attract thousands of tourists every year.
One of the most spectacular and magical spots in the Valle del Treja Regional Park is where the river forms the famous Monte Gelato waterfalls, the reserve’s landmark. The surroundings create an atmosphere of times gone by. The stillness of the place, broken only by the river waters crashing against the rocks, invites one to admire the landscape in silence.
